Introduction
We are looking for a Frontend Slot Game Developer to build and maintain the HTML5 game clients that power our casino slot titles. You'll work in TypeScript on top of a 2D rendering engine (Phaser 3 or Pixi.js, depending on the title), building the reels, animations, UI, and bonus features players interact with directly, and wiring that client to both our web-hosted Remote Game Server (RGS) and our physical cabinet (EGM) hardware for land-based deployments.
Duties & Responsibilities
The essential duties of the position include the following, and other duties may be assigned:
- Build and maintain slot game front-ends in TypeScript using Phaser 3 or Pixi.js as the 2D rendering/animation engine, alongside React 19 and Redux Toolkit for UI shell and application state.
- Keep Redux (or the project's equivalent state layer) as the single source of truth across the React/rendering-engine boundary, avoiding duplicated local state that can drift out of sync.
- Implement win-celebration and character animation using Spine2D skeletal animation (spine-phaser / pixi-spine), GSAP tweening, Effekseer particle effects, and Howler.js audio.
- Integrate the game client with the RGS over REST and WebSocket — session start, spin request/response, balance updates, and reconnect/error handling — and with physical cabinet hardware via the studio's cabinet SDK bridge for land-based (LPM) builds.
- Build and maintain core slot features: autoplay (with configurable stop conditions), buy-feature/buy-spins, turbo mode, paytables and info popups, bonus wheels, expandable "penny game" mechanics, and multi-theme/reskin support.
- Maintain layouts for both responsive desktop/mobile web play and fixed-resolution cabinet displays (including portrait cabinet layouts and rotate-to-play prompts).
- Write and maintain automated regression tooling: outcome/math verification scripts and Puppeteer-driven browser probes that catch UI and payout-display regressions before release.
- Build and ship titles with Vite (current titles) or Webpack/Babel (legacy titles still on that toolchain), and support Docker/Kubernetes/Nginx-based deployment of the built client.
- Collaborate with the backend/math team, QA, and compliance to hit certification and submission deadlines, including coordinating fixes flagged during independent test-lab review.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Required:
- 3–5 years of professional experience building HTML5/canvas-based games or comparably interactive, animation-heavy web applications.
- Strong TypeScript/JavaScript fundamentals, including asynchronous programming and state management patterns.
- Hands-on production experience with Phaser 3 and/or Pixi.js (or a directly comparable 2D game engine such as Cocos2d-x or Construct).
- Experience with React and a centralized state-management library (Redux Toolkit or equivalent).
- Comfortable working with Git across Bitbucket, GitHub, and/or Azure DevOps.
Nice to have:
- Prior experience specifically in slot, casino, or other regulated real-money gaming.
- Experience integrating a client against a Remote Game Server (RGS) or similar real-time session/payment backend.
- Spine2D (or comparable skeletal animation) pipeline experience.
- Experience shipping software to physical gaming cabinets/EGMs or other constrained embedded display hardware.
- Node.js scripting for build tooling, asset pipelines, or QA automation.
- Language Ability
- Ability to read and comprehend technical specifications, correspondence, and design documents. Ability to write clear technical documentation and communicate effectively with designers, backend engineers, QA, and compliance staff, one-on-one and in small groups.
Math Ability
- A working understanding of probability as it applies to slot paytables, paylines/ways, and RTP is a plus. No specialized higher mathematics (e.g., calculus, differential equations) is required for this role — that lives with the backend/math engine role below.
- Reasoning Ability
- Ability to solve practical problems involving a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardization exists (e.g., reconciling animation timing against a variable-length server response). Ability to interpret feedback from QA, compliance, or non-technical stakeholders to identify the underlying issue and propose a fix. Comfortable working under the deadline pressure that comes with regulatory submission windows.
- Computer Skills
- Comfortable with modern browser developer tools, Microsoft Office / Google Workspace, and standard issue-tracking tools (e.g., Jira). Experience with Docker and basic CI/CD pipelines (Bitbucket Pipelines, GitHub Actions) is an advantage.
